Georgia Laws and Tint Percentages Alpharetta, GA

Picture
Drivers in Alpharetta and Fulton County are bound to the laws and tint percentage information that Georgia enforces yearly. Since these rules can change periodically, it is always best to see the current expectations before investing in window tinting services.

The current regulations are found under HB 20, which went into effect on May 2, 2005.

  • It is a misdemeanor office to violate the window tinting restrictions found in Georgia, and these rules apply to non-residents.
  • No window tinting products are permitted on the front windshield, although the top six inches can have a transparent item without amber or red colors.
  • The light transmission restriction cannot be less than 32% on either side of the driver, or in the back of the vehicle. Light reflectance must be more than 20%, with a 3% plus or minus allowed.
  • Smoked taillights are not permitted in Georgia, and 70% of the light must remain available for people to see.

When you drive a multipurpose passenger vehicle, the rear windshields and side windows are exempt from the Georgia laws regarding tint percentage information. Medical exemptions are available, but a state-licensed optometrist or physician must attest to your need for special shielding.

Installers are also considered guilty of committing a misdemeanor offense if they provide products that don’t meet with the state’s current expectations.

Any violations of the Georgia laws and tint percentages can result in up to a $1,000 fine and up to a year in prison. That’s why working with a professional installer is critical.
